Artem Lobov discredits Paulie Malignaggi’s recognition as a fighter
Artem Lobov views Paulie Malignaggi as an unaccomplished fighter in boxing.
Artem Lobov threw hard shots while reflecting on Paulie Malignaggi’s career inside the ring. Although Malignaggi is a two-division world champion, Lobov feels that he is not among the elite names in the sport.
“When you’re a true boxing world champion, everybody knows about you,” said Lobov. “Everybody knows (Vasyl) Lomachenko. Everybody knows Mike Tyson. Everybody knows Muhammed Ali. Nobody f—–g heard of this guy (Malignaggi).”
Lobov, who competed in the UFC, also believes that Malignaggi had it the easy way in boxing. The UFC only recognizes one champion in each division, rather than multiple. To Lobov, more world champions means ducking others.
In boxing, the four major titles in each division include the IBF, WBO, WBC, and WBA. Had boxing worked the same way as the UFC regarding world titles, Lobov wouldn’t see Malignaggi as a champion.
“No chance, no chance,” said Lobov. “If he had to fight a competitive fight every single time, no chance would he ever be a champion.”
